As a busy imaging outpatient department, we see over 200 patients a day. Most of these patients require IV starts. With budget restrictions, staffing issues, and increased volumes at our hospital, our IV team was unable to respond to help us in a timely manner, sometimes due to acuity in the hospital, not at all.
With a little research, I was able to find NextVein, providing the same technology as a competitor at a huge price difference. This price difference allowed us to purchase multiple units for all our imaging departments. It was a plus to be able to have a unit sent to the department so that we could trial the equipment to verify that it would be of help. By the second day, we had already seen half a dozen patients that benefited from the NextVein Vein Finder. The Vein Finder not only helps calm patients when they see you can see their veins, but it also helps to locate some veins that staff were unable to palpate. Staff now also use it to verify where a valve is to make sure the IV is started in the correct position. Without IV access, many patients would have to return another day or have their exam order changed—neither is in the best interest of the patient’s care.
We also have lab draw sites in our departments, and the lab techs on occasion have asked to use the Vein Finder. Staff appreciate the hands-free option but also the portability so that we can take it into a prep room.
What has been outstanding is the response time, the customer service, and product support. The Vein Finder is also easy to assemble and use.
We have just now ordered another Vein Finder for our Cancer Center Imaging department. I am sure it won’t take long for the Infusion floor to take an interest too.
The NextVein Vein Finder offered us an affordable solution to assist staff and increase patient satisfaction. Ultrasound units were not an option due to price. Similar Vein Finders with the same technology were almost double the price.
Thank you!
